Tongabezi Lodge is a romantic hideaway on the banks of the Zambezi River just upstream of Victoria Falls. A member of the Green Safaris Family, the lodge prides themselves on being conservation and community-driven, and believe that tourism should benefit entire communities. Here, the legendary warmth of the Zambian people is effortlessly combined with their own brand of exclusive ambiance.
Their dedicated personal valets welcome guests to a selection of six bespoke Houses and five River Cottages, all individually styled with designs from all over Africa. Every House and Cottage provides a private deck, and five of the six Houses has its own plunge or infinity pool.

The Tongabezi Trust School, Tujatane was set up by Vanessa Parker, who was previously teaching as a volunteer in Livingstone. Vanessa is the wife of Ben, who established Tongabezi in 1990 together with the late William Ruck-Keene. Tujatane has grown from a pre-school class of 15 children, to a primary school with over 290 students. The school has charity status in the UK and is completely funded on donations.
The Tongabezi Trust School also funds many of their students through to high school, university, and apprenticeships. Tujatane alumni now include pilots, doctors, lawyers, teachers, clinical officers, accountants and much more besides. In fact, many of them work at the school or at Tongabezi itself, proving how empowering and supportive our little community is.
Going Green - all our soap shampoo and cleaning products for the rooms and kitchen are biodegradable. We order the bulk of our wood supplies from sustainable forests in the Copper belt near Ndola. We also have a Vivreau still and sparkling bottling system that is saving 20,000 plastic water bottles a year and around 2,000 tin cans. The Tongabezi garden is a veritable feast of organically fed and organically protected vegetables, and our food waste is used to make compost. We only use homemade, organic fertiliser too. Willow & Associates are top water treatment consultants. They have designed and custom made our purification plant. The recycled water is used for irrigation and to feed the Tongabezi wildlife dam.
HIV Awareness - Tongabezi Lodge staff has joined the Aids Council of Zambia and Share (An American funded Public Private Partnership) in the global fight against HIV/AIDS. The project has succeeded in breaking the silence and enabling more staff to go for Voluntary Counselling and Testing and if need be Anti-Retroviral Treatment. The success of our program is especially evident in the fact that HIV/AIDS is becoming something everyone feels comfortable discussing around the lunch table.
Mukuni Community - Tongabezi is committed to bringing better qualified teachers to our communities through the provision of quality housing. Building on our reputation of putting our money where our mouth is and a superb standing in the teaching community through Tujatane the Tongabezi Trust School we have extended the reach of our involvement through donating 10% of proceeds from Livingstone Island to build houses for Mukuni village teachers. To date over 13 houses have been built, along with a water tank and pump to supply the village.
