Flatdogs Camp has an enviable position on the banks of the Luangwa River, right next to the main entrance to the National Park, in its own conservation area which is teeming with impala, puku, elephant, and giraffe.

The camp offers a mix of different accommodation to suit all budgets and travelers. The a la carte restaurant at Flatdogs is renowned in the safari world as they use the freshest of local ingredients and best quality organic meats to create a wide range of delicious meals catering to all tastes and dietary requirements.

Safaris from Flatdogs are led by expert guides who have studied all facets of the natural world they work in. They can explain in detail the inter-locking ecology of the Park which is one of the few undisturbed natural wilderness areas left in Africa.

Location

Just outside the main entrance of the South Luangwa National Park on 85 hectares of private conservation area. 5 minutes drive to the Park gate. 30 minutes drive from Mfuwe Airport. Accessed via scheduled flight from Lusaka or Lilongwe or self drive.

Jackalberry Treehouse has three main decks which are around eight feet off the ground with wooden stairways to reach the spacious sitting area and open-plan bedrooms. Each bedroom has open air en-suite bathroom facilities, with hot shower, WC and basin. One bedroom has a king-sized bed, the other bedroom has either two single beds or these can be converted to a king-sized bed if there are two couples sharing the house. A fridge and bar are provided in the tree house as well as tea- and coffee-making facilities. Private guiding for minimum 4 adults.

Crocodile Nest is a private tented house that has 2 bedrooms en-suite, lounge, dining area, large deck and Private swimming pool.  It is possible to add a third bed into each bedroom, or two beds into the living room, so the house can sleep a maximum of six people. There is a fridge for cold drinks, as well as tea/coffee making facilities. Activites are privately guided.

Morning game drives, afternoon/night drives, walking safaris, all-day drives with picnic lunch, village visits, and visits to the conservation and education projects that the camp supports in the Mfuwe area.

Extra activities include Kawaza village visits and visits to Chipembele wildlife education centre, spa treatments at the Bush Spa located at Mfuwe Lodge

All ages are accepted in the main camp however minimum age of 6 years in the Treehouse and Croc’s Nest.

The Treehouse, Crocs Nest, and Family chalets can be used as family rooms and there is one family tent that can sleep up to 4 people.

The camp is open from the 15th March until 15th January each year.

Flatdogs are founding members of Project Luangwa and support Conservation South Luangwa and the Zambia Carnivore Programme. They also support the Human/Wildlife mitigation Programme directly which is part of Conservation South Luangwa. There is WiFi in the main area. One hour per day given free to guests. Any more time is charged extra.
