Surefoot Safaris is an owner operated company, operated exclusively from their tented bush camp, “Mapazi”. Nestled under mature trees on the banks of the Luangwa River, Mapazi provides an authentic Africa-Under-Canvas experience with a few essential comforts.
Walking with Deb you will explore Luangwa’s unspoilt wilderness; tracking big game, watching magical birdlife and uncovering some of natures’ best kept secrets.Back to South Luangwa
Mapazi Camp is situated in the remote north eastern corner of South Luangwa National Park on the banks of the Luangwa River only 5km south of the Mupamadzi River confluence. This area is untouched wilderness; there is no network of game-viewing roads, only access to the camp.
The estimated travel time from Mfuwe airport to Mapazi Camp by vehicle is approximately 4 hours. We recommend that a stay at Mapazi Camp is combined with at least 2 other camps in South Luangwa – starting with a camp in the more central area and finishing off with another northern based camp.
3 Walk-in Meru style tents each with views of the river.
Room features Include:
Access to the tents is from both ends allowing a through breeze
The tents have large gauze panels for an all-round view and a shaded porch with seating area
A good night sleep is assured in their large beds with sprung mattresses and comfy pillows
Each tent has a private bathroom with flushing toilet, shower and basin (hot & cold running water) These are situated next to the tents and have their own river view.
The centre piece of Mapazi is their canvas Chitenje; the open-sided tent has been carefully assembled around the huge boughs of a majestic Sausage Tree to create a cool bar and comfortable lounge area.
Morning coffee and light breakfast is enjoyed on the banks of the Luangwa River as the sun rises. Brunch or early lunch is served beneath the shade of a Sausage Tree. Everyone meets at the Chitenje for tea before departing on an afternoon walk. Guests dine in the Chitenje, by the camp fire or on moonlight banks of the Luangwa.
Children 12 years and older are welcome but there are no family tents
Open from 1st July until 18th October each year
